FURTHER INFORMATION + VISITOR COMMENTS
VISITOR COMMENTS:
We have asked our visitors to write about their experiences, draw or paint a picture or compose a poem and tell us all about it. Below there follows a selection of these:- (unfortunately I can’t show you some of the fantastic drawings here that our visitors have done -you’ll just have to come and look at them for yourself!)
An amazingly relaxing long weekend. The romantic garden cottage far exceeded all expectations. The weather was superb so we were able to take full advantage of the beautiful surroundings. Things we would recommend:-
No.1 The coastal walk from your front door to New Quay. A 12 mile round trip with stunning views all the way- break up with a dip in the sea at one of the secluded coves.
No.2 Sunset meal at The Ship in Tresaith.
No.3 Spending time in the garden. We really enjoyed eating all meals outside in the beautiful garden, especially a barbecue on our first evening.
Many thanks Nick and Sally for making the stay as relaxing, easy and enjoyable as possible.

A landscape where the past is everywhere
Ruins of abbeys, castles and rocks
Megalithic monuments built when the earth was young
And in the west always the ocean where from
Sailors started for the paradise islands
It’s all just here to be discovered.
It was a lovely week in this cosy little cottage where we felt at home. Thanks Sally and Nick to let us share this small paradise on earth.
Ruud & Jessica, The Netherlands
First time in Wales has been a fantastic experience. The weather was absoloutely terrific! So great for walking, lingering in the beautiful garden and even for swimming in the sea. The red kite was, as promised, in the sky above the garden as were many other birds….
On the coast path we saw a seal taking a sunbath and at Llangrannog we were luck to see a small group of dolphins feeding and playing close to shore!! Our stay was much too short to enjoy everything there is in this area, so we hope to come back here soon.
Thank you Sally and Nick for making us feel at home here in this wonderful cottage!
Olav & Rosemaryn, The Netherlands
We have had a wonderful week here, breakfast with the buzzard……..That magical moment on our first visit to the cliff tops to see the dolphins-oh + just one very cute seal. Then to go back to the same area the next day and see them again-words cannot describe.
A week is not long enough, St Davids, Botanical Gradens, Aberglasney, a fascinating woollen mill & water mill, NT at Llanerchaeron and some lovely walks…We will be back.
Sally & Vic
We were blessed with glorious sunshine and hot weather! The beaches were magnificent and we enjoyed swimming in bracing conditions on one occasion and very refreshing calm conditions the rest of the time. The beaches and walks were wonderfully uncrowded, parking was relatively easy and inexpensive or free.
The local is well worth the walk for an evening drink. Beautiful forest walk to enjoy!
We found our hosts Sally and Nick just perfect; friendly, generous and delightful although chats were brief. They have provided a wonderful”home from home” cottage with every need being addressed in comfort and appliances. Lovely peaceful garden. A superb relaxing retreat!!
Doug and Sue
A real “home from home”-away from it all.
It’s a lovely, well equipped cottage with a pretty, relaxing garden. Weather was mixed but we managed to take advantage of the hammock and enjoyed a BBQ on the patio. Billy (baby) liked the fountain and seemed to enjoy his holiday.
Beaches were lovely we managed to have a swim and we saw a seal at Cwmtydu and a dolphin, whilst eating dinner at The Ship Inn in Tresaith…..
Despite our best efforts we never found any Welsh cakes as good as Sally’s!
Thank you for a great stay
Jane, Paul and Billy
This cottage” does exactly what it says on the tin” !! It is indeed a relaxing and picturesque retreat. As well as the walks, already recommended by others, I also hired a bike and cycled the area (from Rod and Wheels in New Quay, £14 for nearly 2 days). Bike routes are clearly signed or DIY using cottage maps.
Apart from our one big day out to the Tal y Llyn railway we spent most of our time around here enjoying the tranquil setting.
So to sum up (in no particular order)
-Walks Great coastal walks
-Cycling A bit hilly but definitely worth it
-Nant Gwernol The beautiful TR railway terminal high up in the Snowdonian mountains
-The garden A lovely relaxing haven at the cottage
-Llangrannog A pretty coastal village
Finally thanks to Nick and Sally for your welcome and hospitality
Mike & Pam
The test of a good holiday, is whether you’re ready to face the world again at the end of it and although we could easily stay another week, we will eventually have to return to the “big smoke” that is London. But thanks to this wonderful cottage: Sally and Nick’s hospitality (not to mention the delicious cakes and jam!); good exercise; good food; spectacular scenery and an overload of fresh air, we’re going to be able to cope much better with reality! We’ll definitely be back….Wales has gotten under our skin… it reminds us so much of South Africa and we feel at home here. Thanks for letting us in on your secret…places like this do exist!!
Shannon & Hadley
Dear Sally and Nick,
Your cottage is absolutely beautiful; we feel very lucky to have stayed in it.
Thank you so much for making us feel welcome. Above all thank you for taking the time to talk to us. Your “little goodies” were really appreciated, and so was your company on Wednesday evening.
We will never forget the divine “cathedral” lights viewed from the cottage…..They made us dream…..

We've had a really lovely week and can't believe the sun came out every day! Very relaxing and peaceful, the cottage has been a delight to stay in - we will be recommending it to everyone. Our highlights of the week have been:-
1. Visiting Mwnt and having a picnic on the hill whilst spotting dolphins
2. The walk from Llangrannog to the island of bouncy grass (Ynys Lochtyn) follow the path from the Patio cafe.
3. Sampling (almost) every flavour of honey ice cream at Aberaeron (by the Quay)
4. Being able to use the hammock in the early evening sunshine with a cold beer!
Thanks Nick and Sally - we're very sorry to have to go home now!
Louise and Tom
We came back to another warm welcome from Nick and Sally, this time in Spring. The flowering gorse and blackthorn all along the coast is a wonderful sight, especially against the deep blue sky. The woods, particularly those behind St Tysilios church are carpeted with wood anenomes and everywhere there is birdsong. The kites can again be seen gliding overhead and the ducks are a delight to watch flying around the houses at great speed and then "crash landing" just beyond the cottage garden. We heard the woodpecker but didn't see it.
We have found plenty of new walks locally and saw seals and a variety of sea birds at Bird Rock near New Quay.....This is such a nice place that we are sure that we will be back again. The peace and the beautiful surroundings ensure that the cottage is an ideal place for a break away from work!
Margaret and Bob
When the weather is wet and windy you need a warm and comfortable place to come back to and we certainly had that.... This area was new to us and it is so beautiful. So many bluebells and the wild flowers along the banks are a joy....
Thank you for such a relaxing haven from which to enjoy a lovely area of Wales.
Chris and Nigel
Thank you Nick and Sally for a wonderful holiday. Even the weather co-operated as you had ordered!
This delightful cottage and garden is everything you described and much, much more.
We enjoyed a quiet restful time with good quality food and service at the Ship, the Crown and the Patio cafe in Llangrannog. Short trips to St. Davids, into the hills and to Llanarchaeron (N.T) and hardly any traffic too. A five car traffic jam in Aberaeron was a real pain.
A holiday which really exceeded our expectations and we much appreciated your welcome and hospitality in this super location. We do hope to be back.
Mike and Sally
As you know we have been visiting this area for the last 18 years! But we rate your welcome cottage gardens the Best by Far!
Dot and Norman
Oh to be back again! It felt like returning home......We have had a wonderful week again. Within the first couple of hours our first meeting with a seal. Red kites by first breakfast and dolphins in abundance on each day we went looking, Mwnt being the best place for our sightings.
Our thanks to Sally and Nick (oh and Zoe! the cat) for their true genuine hospitality. We will be seeing you again...
Sally and Vic
A truly magical week! We loved everything about it -first of all the wonderful cottage and truly beautiful garden, and then the absolutely stunning beauty of the surroundings, particularly the coastline. On the walk to New Quay we encountered WILD HORSES, PEREGRINE FALCONS, KESTRELS & SEALS basking in the sun; the boat trip from New Quay showed us DOLPHINS, SEALS, GUILLEMOTS & CORMORANTS; and the walk from Cei Bach to Aberaeron had absolutely stunning views in store, with Aberaeron a beautiful town built in the Regency style!
Thank you Sally and Nick for suggesting those wonderful walks, we will certainly be back for another week of magic!
Vince and Christina (Germany)
Being deprived of the seaside as we are in Birmingham, we couldn't help being dragged to the coast every day:- watching dolphins from the harbour wall at New Quay; finding a seal and its pup in a cove just north of Cwmtydu; being buffeted by waves on the little gem of a beach that is Mwnt; sitting under the dark craggy cliffs on an ominous night in Llangrannog; clambering over the rock pools at Aberporth and watching the sun set from the Ship at Tresaith. All of these experiences so different in feeling and charcter and all set in the warm embrace of Cardigan Bay.
And to top it all off, what a fabulous cottage to return to, a genuine home from home....It's been a fabulous holiday and just what we needed to blow away the city fumes for another year.

We came worn out from work, slept alot, revisted some old haunts, enjoyed some very good food locally, walked a fair bit - collecting wild fruits for Susan's jam making back home - where we return refreshed and very very relaxed!
Ross and Susan (North Wales)
What a wonderful place to spend our Christmas. So peaceful and tranquil, it was just what we needed to regain our strength. Sally and Nick, thank you for your kindness and hospitality and we will always remember our surprise from Santa on Christmas morning.
Dale and Patrick
We have been dreading writing in this guest book, as we knew it meant that our week had come to an end and that we had to go home.
The garden cottage has been the perfect setting for our holiday. It has been hard to leave it each day but with the glorious sunshine in the past few days we felt compelled to go out and explore the region. The highlights have been......Sitting on the rocks and watching the sunset at Tresaith: Sitting in our tent and reading on a near desrted Ynyslas beach: Walking to the peak of the headland at Mwnt for glorious coastal views: The Centre for Alternative Technology at Machynlleth - a beautiful drive there and a really interesting place to visit: Llwynhelyg farm shop- great wholesome food: Finally we can recommend the walk from the cottage to Cwmtydu, really great views if you follow the path round the headland and the ancient settlement......Thank you Nick and Sally for giving us a great place to retreat. We are now inspired to take some of the Heddfan atmosphere back to our city home.
Melissa and David
Lovely cottage in fantastic, unspoilt part of the world. So quiet and peaceful. Enjoyed beaches at Cwntydu, Llangrannog and Mwnt (saw seals at first and last of these). Cliff walk from Cwmtydu to New Quay is worth the effort, though we got the bus back. Cheese making at Caws Cenarth interesting and worth a visit -the cheese is excellent....All in all it has been great to get away from the hustle and bustle....the best accommodation we have ever had.
Val and Alison
This place never fails to enchant. Another relaxing week with the best of high summer weather in October! Once again we enjoyed the seals at Cwmtydu and Penbryn and watched dolphins playing just off Mwnt beach. Yesterday between Gorsgoch and Talgarreg we sat and watched red kites wheeling overhead-almost within touching distance. Very much looking forward to our next visit.
If it is your first visit, take a deep breath-relax-and you'll find it difficult to leave at the end of the week!
Ross and Susan
We felt at home the moment we stepped through the door. The cottage was warm and cozy against the freezing temperatures outside. This time of year you don't get long days.....despite this we managed a good 4 hour plus walk every day. The highlight must be seeing the dolphins at New Quay harbour-leaping clear out of the water. Despite the cold weather, the area was alive with wildlfe-which brought delight throughout our walks.
Just perfect -Thank you
Carolyn and Johnny (New Year week)
Beautiful cottage, beautiful area, beautiful country. Our first visit but hopefully not our last. We put out a bird feeder in the garden and were rewarded with a view of many wild birds, including a tree creeper and a woodpecker. Totally relaxed, homely, cosy break with everything supplied that we could possibly ask for. Thank you both and hope to see you again soon.
Andrew and Pat
Well Heddfan (Peaceful place) Garden Cottage certainly lived up to its name. This is one of the most beautiful, tranquil cottage we have ever stayed in. Despite the weather not being too good, we managed to have rolls and coffee outside most mornings. Even the weather couldn't detract from the lovely garden which even if we couldn't sit outside we could see from the French windows......When we got bck one evening we sat in the pitch darkness outside with a nice bottle of wine (thank you Nick and Sally) fascinated by how many stars we could see; we also saw several shooting stars.
Andy and Judith
We have been blessed by possibly the best weeks weather of the year (late September). Warm sunshine, blue skies and no rain. We enjoyed having our breakfast most mornings on the terrace. The cottage is very very comfortable and quiet - ideal for a relaxing holiday......We have stayed at numerous self catering cottages around the country and they have all let us down in some way. Here at Heddfan has been the exception. Everything was perfect.
We look forward very much to coming back soon. Long may this delightful cottage give peace and tranquility to those who stay here.
John and Ingrid
This is a wonderful cottage. The best, most comfortable place we've stayed. Plenty of space, everything works, a real home from home. Worked out fine without a car.....The walks around here are great - best was the new coast path from Cwmtydu to Llangrannog. The lanes here are so quiet we walked along those alot as well.
Cath and Will
An idyllic little haven surrounded by loads of wild flowers and swarms of fluttering butterflies. We have had breakfasts and twilight suppers to the sound of bird song..... Five places to go:-
Mwnt- this amazing rock from which you can see the whole coastline...magical place for sunsets & you can see dolphins & seals from here.
Llangrannog Bay- A nice bay with a good pub (ales & food) & very friendly landlord in the Pentre Inn.
New Quay to Cwmtydu walk-a stunning walk on gentle hills festooned with drifts of foaming yellow gorse, the skwal of choughs and the path rimmed with shimmering pink mounds of sea thrift.
Ynys Lochtyn Peninsula- The sunsets on this dramatic peninsula are simply stunning..... ***** recommended.
Llanerchaeron-Aberaeron- This is an easy stroll through woods and fields full of numerous wild flowers. The path goes through ancient byways with raised banks & a profusion of blue bells lining the path. The nature reserve wood at the end, just before entering Aberaeron, has very rare pearl bordered fritillaries in May amongst the bracken & bluebell clearings. Kingfishers on the river by the footbridge!
Danny & Anne
Having spent nearly a month searching different websites...Heddfan romantic -garden-cottage looked just the ticket - and my goodness it turned out to be perfect -we could not have dreamed of anything more beautiful.
Gill & David
What a wonderful opportunity to sample the variety that Wales has to offer:
From rain to glorious sunshine, Mountain tops to depths of goldmine,
Coastal paths to country lanes, Woollen mills to miles of glorious vistas,
Coves & caves to gushing waterfalls.
All is easily accessible from this beautiful cottage-a place of quiet retreat, so well presented & comfortable it was a pity to leave it each morning to go out to explore. Thank you for a week of rest & refreshment-in so many ways earning the worthy five star rating.
Simon & Suzy
We've had such a lovely week. The cottage is delightful and we love the artistic touches and the cosy feel. We were so lucky with the weather-breakfast outside every day & lovely afternoons reading in the garden til the sun went down. We had some very enjoyable walks through woods & along coastal paths and were thrilled to see a couple of seals & some choughs.
Charlotte & Duncan
The cottage is wonderfully located & has everything you could need. Some highlights of the week: Dolphins very close to the shore on the walk from Cwm Tydu to New Quay: Devils Bridge waterfall: kite feeding at Nant yr Arian
Alan & Joyce
I cannot begin to tell you how much we have enjoyed this wonderful cottage, a much needed break. A home away from home...
Anthea & Kostas
We are so glad that we found this wonderful cottage on the internet. It is very well equipped and nicely decorated and the garden is a little paradise. We appreciated the helpful guide books & maps.....every day we were able to make lovely walks as the weather was wonderful....sunny & warm. Unfortunately the week here has passed too quickly but we will certainly return.
Karin & Josef (Germany)
This has been our first foray into this part of the country and we have fallen in love with it all! Beautiful coast, stunning scenery and lovely countryside and what a little gem New Quay is, and Mwnt and Aberporth and Tresaith and ... I could go on & on! We've been honoured with dolphin sightings every time we've been in sight of the sea & 2 otters at Bosherston lily ponds..... And then there si the cottage...what a delight in every possible way. Cosy comfortable, away from it all and beautiful gardens. Heddfan lives up to its name. Thanks for your generous hospitality sally & Nick, it's been wonderful!
Jayne & Colin
We've had a wonderful week here on honeymoon! After all the madness of preparing for the wedding it has been a dream to come away..to this cosy romantic cottage. It has been the perfect place to relax..
Jo & Tim
Visited the Red Kite feeding station at Nant yr Arian. On return to the cottage we nearly had a Red Kite land on the car! Night skies are magnificent.... Superb cottage which exceeded our expectations-certainly warrants "5 stars".
David and Shirley
An unchanging haven of peace & beauty in a mad world! It is hard to believe that we have been visiting since 2005 (6 years) and we are already counting the days to our next visit later this year.
